MICEport DMC in Wales
Less urbanized and less wealthy than England, tiny Wales — roughly the size of Massachusetts — is a hillwaker's delight, with mile after mile of green, sheep-dotted land, bordered on three sides by a scenic, windswept coastline.
South Wales' best sights are conveniently close to Bath and the Cotswolds — but the more distant north Welsh coast has the country's highest concentration of castles, natural beauty, and attractions.
Even on a quick visit, make time to connect with Welsh culture. Open your ears to the sound of Welsh, one of Europe's oldest languages still spoken. Clamber over a castle, eat a leek, count sheep in a field, catch a rugby match, or share a pint of bitter with a baritone.
The main language spoken in Wales is English, while many Welsh people speak Welsh or Cymraeg. You will see signs in both English and Welsh throughout Wales.
VAT and Tax Refunds
To be able to claim a tax refund you must be a non-European Union visitor to United Kindom. Look for the ‘Tax Free Shopping’ sign in the windows of participating shops. You must complete a valid tax refund document obtained from the retailer and present the tax refund document and goods to Customs on departure from the European Union. A customs officer will check the goods and validate the tax refund document. You can receive your refund on the spot at some airports, otherwise you should mail the validated tax refund document back to the shop and a refund will be issued.
VAT is charged on almost everything, but remember that refunds only apply to goods being taken out of the country, not services. For more information, visit the official customs website here
The currency in Wales is the pound sterling (£).
Voltage is 240 volts AC at 50HZ. Appliances generally use standard 3-pin square plugs and sockets. Most non-UK appliances will require a transformer and a plug adapter for use in the United Kingdom.
Shops are generally open Monday to Saturday from 10.00am to 8.00pm and on Sundays from 11.00 am to 5.00 pm. In smaller towns many shops tend to be open on Sundays.
